How To Keep Low Carb When Youre on the Go!

Being on and maintaining a low carb diet can be a challenge. If you are busy and on the go it becomes an even bigger challenge. Most already prepared foods such as frozen dinners are going to contain carbs. The biggest carb offenders are foods made with flour and sugar. Some of your favorite vegetables will also be off limits such as potatoes, corn and squash.

Here is a rundown of ideas on how to keep your carbs low when you're on the go:

1. Always choose water or diet soda - Most juices and of course sugar sodas will be off limits. These can seriously hurt you're low carb diet and are simply wasted carbs that can be used for nourishment.

2. Choose nuts as snacks - If you don't have time to prepare a meal or are just hungry between meals and want a quick snack nuts are the very best way to go. You can even get them in prepared portions. Choose unsalted versions of peanuts, cashews and almonds. Tasty and an excellent source of protein.

3. Cheese strings for your dairy selection - Dairy is generally off limits for someone on a low carb diet. Yogurt cups are a favorite for dieters but these are a big no-no for someone on a low carb diet. Low fat milk and skimmed milk needs to be avoided. Cheese strings however, are fast easy and low in fat! Cheese strings are typically 3g of fat or less.

4. Always carry beef jerky - Beef jerky is an excellent way to fend off the munchies or even for a midday lunch combined with a cheese string. If you find yourself in a convenience store and not sure what to buy then head for the jerky aisle.

5. Go for a wrap - It was mentioned earlier but needs to be emphasized. The pre-packaged meals and deli sandwiches are loaded with unwanted carbs, fat and calories. If you really want a sandwich then nix the bread and choose a wrap. The best choices for sandwich types would be tuna, turkey and chicken. Many processed meats have sugar and starch fillers added. Canned fish may also have sugars added. You should try to buy canned fish in water. Labels marked "light" or "low fat" does not necessarily mean low carbs.

6. Stay away from certain fruits- Fruit is another way dieters keep on the go and stay healthy but like some veggies there are some fruits that are off limits. Fruits high in sugar such as bananas, grapes, and cherries should be avoided. Instead you should choose fruits such as apples, watermelon, nectarines and most berries.

There is an amazing amount of food available that you can choose from to keep on your low carb diet while maintaining a busy lifestyle. The best way to keep on track with your diet is to really familiarize yourself with the types of foods that are low carb. Taking the time to read the labels is very important.
